DOORS Sun shines on security Summer has finally arrived, and with it, an increase in the risk of opportunistic burglaries caused by patio doors that have been left open to let in cooler air. National crime figures might be at their lowest since 1980, but now is not the time to become complacent says PatioMaster, which is leading the charge with its own security-conscious mission... As a rule most homeowners in the UK have home security at the top of their agenda. When purchasing patio doors, the customer doesn’t just look for style and performance but also proof that the product has been rigorously tested and meets a certain level of protection against crime. In a quest to provide assurance for its customers, PatioMaster has embraced the nationally recognised Secured by Design initiative. Developed by the Association of Chief Police Officers, Secured by Design is a philosophy that focuses on designing out crime both in the domestic and commercial markets. “The industry, as a whole, has come a long way since the 80s and early 90s” OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS Being security conscious is second nature for most homeowners, however during the recent hot spell, the police have reported a substantial rise in house burglaries. Leaving windows and doors open has given the advantage to the opportunistic burglar. This may well be down to a lack of judgement on the part of the homeowner but they and the industry need to be more proactive in making provision for home security. As Warren Jeffs, sales executive at PatioMaster North West, explained: “Patio Doors haven’t always been seen as the ‘perfect fit,’ especially when it comes to security issues. The industry, as a whole, has come a long way since the 80s and early 90s when design and security shortcomings in products were prevalent. Consequently, they held little appeal in the wider marketplace and failed to provide the necessary solutions required for people with specialist needs.” PIONEERING IMPROVEMENT PatioMaster has led the way in the reinvention of the inline sliding door. Designing out issues, through product development and technical expertise, it has created a simple operating system with improved security and thermal performance, slimmer sightlines and low thresholds. The success of the Secured by Design initiative has spurred the company on to create its own unique programme for its partners. The PatioMaster Secure network ensures that clients are only dealing with manufacturers who meet the stringent requirements set out by Secured by Design. PatioMaster Secure is a countrywide network. Along with the North West the initiative is to be found in the Midlands, Northern Ireland, South West and South Yorkshire. “Secured by Design is important for customers,” continued Warren. “Because so many contracts now specify Secured by Design, PatioMaster North West is able to offer its customers a distinct commercial advantage. We believe that this commitment to quality, flexibility and local delivery gives PatioMaster North West, and the wider PatioMaster Secure network, an opportunity to deliver unparalleled support to our customers.” For further information on PatioMaster or to find your nearest PatioMaster call: 0808 178 3370 or visit: www.patiomaster.co.uk 30 August 2013 Glass & Glazing Products
