Kawneer wins trio of RIBA Regional Awards Three projects featuring glazing systems from architectural aluminium supplier, Kawneer, have won RIBA Regional Awards. The £2.54m Alconbury Incubator Building, which used Kawneer’s zone-drained AA 100 curtain walling and series 190 heavy duty commercial entrance doors, won an award in the East, the largest of RIBA’s regions, for executive architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris. The second Kawneer project to win a RIBA Regional Award was the £30m John Roan School in the London Borough of Greenwich by John McAslan + Partners. Kawneer’s 50mm wide AA100 zone-drained horizontally-capped and mullion-drained structurally glazed curtain walling, AA543 tilturn windows, and medium-duty swing and series 190 heavy-duty welded doors were used across a split-site campus comprising 54 ALUMINIUM Dutemänn doubles up for FIT Set up in 2010 to supply the trade with Schüco aluminium bi-folds, Glide sliding doors and Dutemänn Haus residential doors, Kent based Dutemänn says it has enjoyed remarkable growth ever since, reportedly producing the equivalent of more than 200 three-panel bifolding doors every month. After taking its first ever exhibition stand at the inaugural FIT Show in April 2013, Dutemänn returned the following year with a stand double the size – and has now doubled that to 48m for the 2016 event. With the addition of Dutemänn Glide-S large panel sliding doors for 2016, the company says it needs the space to show the burgeoning range of folding, sliding and residential doors. MD, Martin James, said: “We have enjoyed tremendous success and our appearances at The FIT Show have played an important part in that. The emphasis at Dutemänn is on the highest quality for products that are in demand from discerning customers. It has been clear from our appearances at each event that there is a high demand from visitors looking for products that satisfy this end of the market, something different from the standard bi-folds and sliding doors. Warming to WarmCore Glazerite Windows was reportedly expecting a good reaction to the launch of its Warmcore aluminium bi-fold but says that its Northwest Division landed two orders as soon as the brochure went out – and is already following up many more enquiries in the short time since. As well as offering one of the lowest ‘U’ values of any bi-fold on the market, it was immediately hailed as ‘a fitter’s dream’ by the experienced subcontract fitter on the first of the jobs. “I’ve installed all kinds of bi-folds, aluminium and PVC-U,” said Steven Harris who was fitting the Warmcore in a domestic installation for Hardshaw Developments (pictured), “This was the first Warmcore I’d fitted and it was brilliant.” Glazerite’s northern divisional sales manager, Peter Smith, added: “Both trade customers were impressed with the Warmcore’s ‘U’ value, as well as its looks and general handling. We offer it as standard at ‘U’-1.5 but it can be made to 1.0 with 44mm triple glazing for anyone wanting that extra spec. “We already offer the Imagine PVC-U bi-fold, Imagine patio and New Wave doors; these four together provide installers and homeowners with an array of options and the perfect solution for any installation.” The Glazerite Warmcore door is www.ggpmag.com August 2015 “Our doubled-again stand for 2016 is necessary to show our products properly, especially the new Dutemänn Glide-S sliding doors, which are capable of spanning an aperture of 6.7m wide by 3.2m in height in just two panels.” Alconbury Incubator Building John Roan School the Westcombe Park new-build and Maze Hill refurbishment The third Kawneer project to win a RIBA Regional Award was in the South East, for the £20m BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ WWF-UK headquarters in Woking by Hopkins Architects. Kawneer’s AA100 mullion-drained and AA100 SSG (structurally silicone glazed) curtain walling with 50mm sightlines and concealed vents, AA3110 horizontal sliding doors and 190 commercial entrance doors feature on the facade and roof. Martin James available with a choice of four external sash options, three internal beads and four colours, with no added cost or extended lead times for any of the dual colour combinations. Glazerite is said to be Veka’s largest trade fabricator in the UK as well as a long-standing Network Veka member.
