20 P E O P L E The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) says it was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rick Caen, of R.E.C. Glazing, on 16 June 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Rick had been a GGF member since 2001 and a regular attendee and contributor to the GGF’s Kent, Surrey and Sussex Region, together with the Federation’s Insulating Glass Manufacturers Group and Glazing Components Group. Peter Stuttard, GGF regional manager, commented: “Rick was a committed and passionate GGF member and will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.” 48 years in glazing An ‘ideal ambassador’ A tribute to Rick Caen www.ggpmag.com August 2017 Geze UK’s expansion continues with the appointment of Stephen Lancaster who takes up the role of sales manager within window technology supply and installation, covering the Northern region. Stephen will be primarily responsible for the supply and installation sales of Geze’s wide range of window technology products for smoke extraction and natural ventilation. This will involve forging strong relationships with key fabricators in the North of England and Scotland and assisting them with technical compliance issues. With experience as an architectural technologist for practices across Harrogate and Leeds, including Smith Smalley, DLG Architects and S+SA Architects, Stephen is said to be ‘ideally placed’ to ensure that fabricators are aware of the latest regulations and the range of Geze products available. Further expertise comes from his role as architectural project manager for aluminium systems house, Schuco, where he assisted architects in specification and provided technical input. Stephen said: “I have always been aware of Geze as a strong name in the industry from my early days as an architectural technologist. Geze is a well-respected company with good core values, run as a family business, making it very appealing to be associated with.” Andy Howland, sales director of Geze UK, commented: “Stephen is an excellent addition to our growing sales team. His understanding of the market, technical knowledge, personality, not least familiarity with the Northern territory makes him the ideal, front-facing ambassador for Geze in this region.” In Brief • The Epwin Group has appointed Katie Leese as programme manager for its new member programme, Excellence as Standard. Katie said: “I’m excited to be joining Epwin and leading the mission to make Excellence as Standard the benchmark for quality in the industry.” Katie is no stranger to the Epwin Window Systems – she spent over eight years as the brand manager for Profile 22. As a result, the Epwin Group maintains that she has a ‘deep understanding’ of the industry in general and the Epwin Window Systems’ brands and culture that will stand her in good stead as she takes up her new role. • Window Ware’s ‘rising star’, Demi Whitbread, has been promoted to the position of area sales manager for the home counties and north London. Initially taken on as a general filing assistant almost five and a half years ago, it wasn't long before head of internal sales and marketing, Sarah Binns, recognised her potential and snapped her up to become an integral member of her officebased sales team. Sarah said: "It was obvious Demi was meant for more! She was eager to take on additional responsibility and always willing to go the extra mile - such natural talent and enthusiasm deserved to be recognised.” After 48 years within the glass and glazing industry, Colin King, director and company secretary of K A Hockley & Sons, is retiring. Colin first started work with Colchester based Kent Blaxill & Co as an office clerk, pricing invoices for glass supplies. He moved through the ranks to become glass buyer and in 1990 after 21 years with the company, he was approached by Keith Hockley of Clacton on Sea based K A Hockley to join him as a director. In 2005 he was a finalist in the prestigious Colchester & District Business Awards for Businessman of the Year and in 2006, Hockleys took the Retailer of the Year title. Colin went on to become a judge for the same awards the following year. - Veka Group has become the official club sponsor of local football team Rosegrove FC, marking the occasion with a recent charity match. The ‘just-for-fun’ fixture pitted Rosegrove coaches against a team of employees from Veka Group at the Kiddrow Lane ground, just a stone's throw from the Rossendale Road Industrial Estate where the Group is based. All proceeds from the match will go towards raising funds at Rosegrove, and Veka Group's chosen charity for 2017; Pendleside Hospice. Dawn Stockell, marketing director for Veka Group said: “Everyone here is thrilled that we are now the official sponsor of Rosegrove FC. The new match and training kits look absolutely fantastic in ‘Veka blue’ too!”
