56 H E R I T A G E & V S Making heritage work Industry forecasts suggest the market is in for a rocky road in the next few years as a consequence of Brexit. But one of the few bright spots is in heritage. Here, Heidi Sachs, managing director of trade fabricator Modplan, explains how to capitalise It’s easy to see why heritage is one of the few sectors of the industry that is tipped for growth in the next few years. Heritage installations are at the premium end of the market and it’s no coincidence that this is another area tipped for big things. Quite simply, homeowners with more money to spend are homeowners who are less likely to be affected by economic uncertainty. As a reflection of the interest in heritage installations, we’ve seen increasing numbers of enquiries from installers about our heritage offering. When we discuss the opportunities with them, three concerns are foremost in their minds. They want to make the most of the heritage products in their portfolio but they recognise it will always be a niche product for them and therefore don’t want maintaining it to take up a disproportionate amount of time. They know that the heritage sector is a competitive one and they want to know they’ll be supported with the best products and proactive marketing support. They worry that high net worth homeowners will be high maintenance homeowners and they want to be sure they’ll have a set up in place that will ‘have their back’ and not let them down. If any of these sound familiar, read on to find out what we say. “Offering a comprehensive portfolio means keeping our finger on the pulse” In essence, we believe the answer is simple: if you want to capitalise on the opportunities heritage offers, you need to be working with a proactive trade supplier. At the heart of the Modplan philosophy is a desire to offer one of the most comprehensive product portfolios in the industry all backed up with a commitment to giving your business the support it needs. At the most basic level this means that we’re a ‘one stop shop’ for all your products. That means one phone number and one point of contact for every product you sell, making life so much easier than when you have multiple products from multiple suppliers. We are a Veka fabricator and everything is manufactured in our state of the art headquarters near Newport, Gwent. Offering a comprehensive portfolio means keeping our finger on the pulse and making sure we always have the best-in-class products in our portfolio. In the heritage sector we’ve recently added the Veka/Halo FlushSash and the mechanically jointed version of the Veka vertical slider too. The Veka/Halo FlushSash evokes the looks of a traditional Georgian window making it perfect for the heritage market (but the flush aesthetics also mean the commercial market likes it as an alternative to aluminium). To replicate the authenticity of plain or painted timber windows, the window is available in 30 woodgrain and painted finishes, while traditional monkey tail handles and dummy peg stays are a beautiful heritage option. Despite the traditional looks, the window can still achieve an ‘A’ rating and meets all security requirements. The mechanically jointed version of the Veka vertical slider was developed in conjunction with local planning departments to ensure it would meet the design requirements for conservation areas. Features such as a ‘mortice and tenon’ appearance in key joints, sculptured sashes, traditional travel stops and traditional hardware design ensure it more than delivers. Making heritage work As well as having the right products, we also offer strategic and direct marketing support, website and ecommerce support, point of sale material and a comprehensive suite of brochures. We also know that our customers rely on us to be reliable. It’s why everything we sell is manufactured in-house and we have daily production meetings to ensure all orders are on schedule. It’s why we have our own fleet of unbranded vehicles so we can guarantee delivery times and be discreet at the same time. And it’s why we use state-ofthe art software so you can place orders 24/7. In short, I believe that by working with Modplan you get everything you need and more to get heritage working hard for you. on the opportunities it presents. www.ggpmag.com August 2017
