GGP December 2013

Products of 2013 The past 12 months have revealed a wealth of innovative and exciting products – GGP takes another look at December 2013 35 A 1.0 is launched some of the highlights. Highlighting innovations Alu-Timber has launched EFT, a 60mm curtain wall system offering capped, twosided structural glazing with vertical or horizontal capping and four-sided structural glazing. As standard, Alu- Timber EFT is available in Larch engineered timber and a wide range of timber mullions and transoms are available. Oak, ash, pine or eucalyptus is also available. The external aluminium can be finished in a range of polyester powder colours Guardian has launched ClimaGuard A 1.0. As a single stock, low ‘e’ glass, ClimaGuard A 1.0 can be used annealed or toughened and according to Guardian, ‘provides the optimum in thermal insulation’, achieving a 1.0 ‘U’ value in a standard 4/16/4 (90% argon) IGU, or ‘U’ values as low as 0.4 W/m2K in triple glazed units. Guardian claims that the new ClimaGuard A 1.0 provides ‘some of the best thermal insulation on the market’, combined with a high light transmission of 72% and a low solar factor of 54%, making this ideal not only for commercial projects, but also for utilising solar heat gain in ‘sustainable’ projects, such as those using the Passivhaus standard. The solar factor of 54% apparently offers mid level heat gains, which are suitable for designs where heat energy from the sun can be used to warm a building without overheating. ClimaGuard A 1.0 is also suitable for triple glazing, where it helps to achieve the Passivhaus window requirement of a 0.8 ‘Uw’. www.guardianglass.co.uk/latestproducts Freefoam Building Products has published a list of ‘firsts’ to highlight, what the company describes as, its ‘ground breaking product and commercial innovations’. Aidan Harte, MD, said: “The publication of this list is a significant landmark for Freefoam. Making and guaranteeing, long life, innovative products is a life long company commitment that involves our technical and manufacturing resources and the cumulative experience of products in use over many years. Roofline, rainwater and cladding are fit and forget products. That’s what customers want to help them compete in difficult markets and we have made a commitment to manufacture trouble free long life products which meet their expectations.” Among the list, Freefoam states it led in the move to produce safer products and was first to manufacture 100% lead free products. The company was also said to be the first to add built in UV protection to its range, manufacturing with an advanced formulation with extra titanium dioxide (TiO2). www.freefoam.com/about/innovation or anodising. Instead of standard spring loaded cleats to attach the transoms to the mullions, Alu-Timber EFT features magnetic fixing which, in effect, pulls the transom to the mullion to ensure tightness and security, as well as a traditional spring loaded cleat method. www.alutimber.co.uk EFT curtain walling
