People Carole makes her mark Carole Revilles recently joined Padiham Glass as health and safety administrator and has already started making her mark. “Everyone has been so friendly”, said Carole. “I’ve had to ask a lot of questions to find out how the company’s current Health and Safety strategies are working but everyone has been really eager to help and point me in the right direction to get to the information I need, both on the shopfloor and in the main offices.” Carole’s many years of experience overseeing 430 employees at a Boots the Chemist warehouse in Heywood, Rochdale made her a prime candidate for the job, as she already understands the processes involved in staff training and inductions, risk assessments, fire safety procedures and accident investigation protocols. “I think the biggest challenge will be getting to grips with the health and safety issues that are specific to the glass industry,” said Carole, “but it’s a much smaller team of staff than what I was used to at Boots, so I’m confident I can really focus on improving the existing plans.” TELFORD TOUR: UKAS accredited testing specialist, Wintech Engineering, recently opened its doors to the next generation of engineers when it invited students at Bath University to tour its Telford facility. “The students are studying a Master of Science degree in Facade Engineering and through their visit they will gain an understanding of the test principles for facades, as well as an insight into everything else we do,” said Michael Wass, technical director at Wintech Engineering. Poppy peddlars It isn’t every day someone has the opportunity to mark two great causes in one event but that is what a team of window industry leaders did with the GM Fundraising Poppy Ride, with all funds raised going to the Royal British Legion. “It really was an unforgettable experience,” said Quickslide chairman Adrian Barraclough, who made the journey along with 20 other cyclists and support crew. “Not only riding as a part of GM Fundraising but concluding the journey at such an evocative memorial site was really something else.” The group pedaled all the way from the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire to the memorial among the battlefields of the Somme – scene of some of the bloodiest battles in military history – to mark the centenary of the beginning of The Great War.
