When I arrived and saw the huge potential in the product for all sectors of the market there was no way I could say no. We are now spreading this message to all sectors of the industry and showing companies how to stay one step ahead of their competition by using the ClearShield Eco System. GGP: You’ve recently returned from Glasstec in Dusseldorf. How did you find the show? Have you been before, and if so, has it changed much since your last visit? McDonald: This was my 8th show. There is much more focus in new technology but the core of the show definitely remains the same. The world’s major machinery manufacturers are all there showing their latest innovations. It’s an amazing show that I always look forward to. The show itself was great for Ritec, we had marketing partners from all over the world with us. The enquiry level was very high and we’re currently following up some very good prospects worldwide. GGP: It’s been almost exactly a year since you joined the company. You’ve no doubt been hard at work developing the ClearShield Eco-System brand, but are there any other products ‘in progress’ at Ritec that we should look out for in the near future? McDonald: We are always developing and improving, The Eco System itself is proof of this as is our latest generation of ClearShield that is the next generation of the market leading technology. We are also working on other products that enhance our range. All products manufactured by Ritec form part of a system and are not stand alone. This means our customers have the tools to renovate and protect many types of surfaces. Our latest developments are, of course, a closely guarded secret but will, when launched, solve problems that most people think are unsolvable. GGP: What’s in a typical working day for you? McDonald: It’s a mixture of being in the office in London and visiting customers. Currently, we are opening many new accounts in the window market. We launched our window campaign earlier this year at the FIT show and it has been a great success. We have given the fenestration industry the opportunity to add value to the domestic window market with an easily applied low maintenance surface treatment. Needless to say, this alone is keeping me busy but its very rewarding to see companies pushing our messages out and reaping the rewards. GGP: Do you get the chance to wind down for the Christmas period, or is it all systems go for 2015? McDonald: I’m already trying to decide what to do with the holidays I haven’t taken this year. It’s certainly all systems go for 2015. I’ll take time off but I expect the laptop will be out a few times over the break. GGP: Looking forward to the next 12 months, what are you focused on at Ritec? And how do you see the industry performing as a whole for 2015 – do you expect it to plateau or will business continue to boom? McDonald: I am ensuring that our existing customer base is maintained and kept up to date with developments but most importantly that they are happy and we are looking after them. New developments will open up more market sectors for us in 2015 and I will be introducing these developments throughout the year. It’s hard to say what the market will do. Personally, I feel that it will continue to grow as we all have been more careful with our spending through the recession years and projects were rightly put on the back burner. However, most people I speak too seem much happier now to invest at every level from windows for your house, to major capital machinery investment to produce glass and frames. “Our latest developments are, of course, a closely guarded secret” Next generation ClearShield gets thumbs up at Glasstec Ritec has reported ‘positive feedback’, new leads and early business opportunities as a result of its presence at this year’s Glasstec show. This year’s Glasstec saw the exhibition’s highest ever attendance with over 43,000 visitors in just four days. Ritec says that this interest was mirrored at its stand, where the ‘added value’ of the new ClearShield Eco-System was demonstrated. Visitors were shown how the ClearShield Eco-System transforms new or old glass into a ‘higher value product’ with ‘low-maintenance performance’. Stephen Byers, Ritec MD, said: “Glasstec has proved a great success for Ritec with a fantastic reception to the new ClearShield Eco-System. We are delighted to have been a part of something so prominent to the glass industry and to have the opportunity to meet so many prospective customers and potential marketing partners.”
