Three more SBD 70 December 2014 Trickle vent catalogue Specialist injection moulding company, Banbury based Glazpart, has launched a new catalogue covering its extensive range of trickle vents for the provision of background ventilation in buildings and to meet the requirements for approved document F1. Available at www.glazpart.com/products/trickle-ventilation/ to download or read online as a ‘flip file’, the catalogue provides detailed summaries of all featured products and their key benefits. The catalogue also answers questions including: Why do we have to fit trickle vents? What do trickle vents do? What is EQA? and it also offers guidance on the Building Regulations, which vary across the UK, and how to meet them. New to the catalogue are details of the extensive range of more than 3,500 colour options, whether a moulded colour, vacuum foiled, printed woodgrain or paint sprayed trickle vent. New applications are also detailed including combustion air provision, sash window options and products to provide ventilation for bi-fold or patio door systems. www.glazpart.com ‘Top for thermal efficiency’ According to its manufacturer, Thermoseal Group, Thermobar warm edge spacer, is officially at the top of the list of the most thermally efficient spacer systems as per figures published on the new Bundesverband Flachglas (BF) Data Sheet – 0.14W/mK. Thermobar has been engineered using thermoplastic tube and an integrated non-metallic gas diffusion barrier. It is reportedly the preferred choice of many sealed unit manufacturers because of its handling advantages: It can be stapled without cracking and breaking easily; there are no issues with hot melt bubbling on the edges of units due to inefficient breather holes in the spacer; it requires no costly investment in machinery; it is safe and easy to saw without the safety requirement for air extraction; it is bendable; the price is very competitive; it can be inkjet-printed for free; and it can also be supplied with pre-applied PIB tape. Thermobar is manufactured in the UK. www.thermobarwarmedge.com; www.thermosealgroup.com Skypod addition Eurocell has extended its Skypod skylights range with the addition of a two-bar pitched gable end design, eliminating the need for a central spider glazing bar, improving aesthetics and increasing natural light. The new design joins the existing three-bar version in the range, increasing customer choice and making fabrication and installation quicker and easier. Skypod is also available in kits from all 130 Eurocell branches nationwide and as individual bar length components for Eurocell roof fabricators. According to Eurocell, both the three-bar and new two-bar Skypod options are ‘more aesthetically appealing than rival PVC-U systems’ and offer ‘better value for money than aluminium alternatives’. All Skypod versions are available in the full colour range of anthracite grey, moondust grey, golden oak, rosewood and white.www.eurocell.co.uk/skypod Trade fabricator Glazerite Windows has gained three new Secured By Design certifications – for composite doors, French doors and the new Veka Imagine bi-folds – to add to its existing portfolio of police-approved product ranges. The latest additions, among other things, make Glazerite one of only three UK fabricators which currently hold the sought-after accreditation on bi-folds and one of the very few Veka fabricators to have both SBD and Part M wheelchair access certification on French doors. Glazerite now holds SBD certification on its casement, tilt/turn and VS windows and single resi-doors as well as the three new categories. All have been tested to PAS24: 2012 by a certificated independent testing house. The fabricator was also reportedly the first to supply the SBD accredited Dynamic 2D hinge from SFS Intec in all 15 colour variants for its Veka door range. Next on the list will be the new Veka Imagine patio door, according to Glazerite director, Jason Thompson. www.glazeritewindows.co.uk Glazing’s first AR app? Solidor, has just launched what it believes is the glazing industry’s first augmented reality (AR) app. AR is about hidden content, usually behind a marker on a page, or on film. Solidor has launched the new app to give customers additional interactive material, when they simply point their phone or tablet at an AR trigger photo or logo from the Solidor brochure, or any other printed material with Solidor branding. Apple users can download the Solidor AR app in the App Store, while those with Android operating systems can find theirs through Google Play. Taking the latest advert, users simply open up the app and point it at one of the three different trigger photos or Solidor logo to open up three different videos, which are also available on the company’s new Solidor TV channel. To experience Solidor AR for yourself, download the app from the App Store or Google Play and use with one of the latest adverts or the newly revised consumer brochure. www.solidor.co.uk An AluStar is born 2014 saw Kömmerling launch AluStar, an aluminium clad, outward opening PVC-U window based on its C70 Gold and O70 Gold platforms, fresh from the group research and development facility in Germany. According to Kömmerling, this latest development of the C70 Gold and O70 Gold systems adds a ‘completely new dimension’ for finishes. With its external aluminium cladding, customers can benefit from a ‘near unlimited’ range of RAL colours, while the system also claims to offer improved levels of thermal and sound insulation and extended longevity, particularly when specified with a marine grade powder coated finish. For manufacturers and commercial specifiers, this new hybrid product can be used for projects previously specified in aluminium only, yet with the benefits of lead free PVC-U, including woodgrain foils on the internal face. www.kommerling.co.uk BESTPRODUCTSOF2014 Sponsored by ERA : www.era-security.com
