Products galore ‘Indestructible’ cylinder is here For years the hardware industry has battled with the problem of cylinder snapping, bumping and plug extraction – but ERA says it is first to market with an ‘indestructible’ cylinder, called Invincible. Not only is it designed to withstand the rigours of a prolonged, sustained attack – which the company demonstrated at FIT Show – it comes with maximum certification in the form of British Kitemark, BS1303:2005, PAS 24:2012 and also meets the requirements of TS007 3 Star Accreditation. But from the fabricator and retailer’s point of view, ERA claims it gives the ‘ultimate unique selling point’ when it comes to securing the home owner’s interest in a new door. Grouphomesafe marketing director, Will Butler, explained why he believes Invincible will shape the way cylinders are judged: “As an industry we’ve developed lots of solutions to cylinder attack but if we’re truthful, all the solutions only really put sticking plasters over the problem. “We recognise that to truly eliminate the issue we needed to redesign the cylinder itself – so that’s exactly what we’ve done. Central to our ethos at ERA is giving our fabricator and retailer customers the opportunity to really differentiate their door offering – and that’s what Invincible does. We’re convinced that Invincible will really drive innovation once again in this sector and force every hardware manufacturer to really address the cylinder challenge – but in the meantime, it’s our fabricators that will benefit from this significant innovation.” Features and benefits of Invincible include its ‘squared’ off cylinder shape, which according to ERA, has five times more metal than a standard Euro cylinder at its most vulnerable point – this alone makes snapping and breaking impossible according to ERA. Invincible also features high security hardened six pins for anti-pick, anti-drill, anti-snap and anti-bump resistance. In addition, the cylinder is compliant with all security standards including TS007 3 Star accreditation, BS1303:2005 and Optimised loading and delivery Fabricator, Pioneer Trading, is further increasing the quality of its overall service to the trade by adopting the Mobile Despatch Screen. According to Pioneer, employing the software will ensure even greater efficiency for both the delivery driver and customer, as it enables the products in transit to be tracked from the moment they leave the factory to the exact time of arrival on site. The Mobile Despatch Screen software runs independently in each delivery vehicle’s cab; instead of having html frames showing the login, date and routes, or orders for routes, each stage can be moved to its own page for the user to navigate. Plus, the software makes it easy for each delivery job to be logged, with its own ID, enabling retrospective scrutiny if required. The Mobile Despatch Screen can also show the driver the routes for the delivery day and selecting an order on the screen will take them to a list of the items on each individual order. A barcode field can be read by a mobile scanner integrated with the device, so that the driver knows exactly what is in the lorry. www.pioneertradingcompany.co.uk December 2014 71 PAS24: 2012. www.era-security.com Pull handles join range Hardware distributor, VBH, has added stainless steel pull handles to the greenteQ hardware range. The series was developed by VBH in Germany, where doors are commonly fitted with key operated (wind-up) locks and pull handles have long been used in place of a lever handle set. The range consists of nine basic designs, many of which are available with options of 90° or 45° projection, and with standard or extended legs. All greenteQ pull handles are manufactured from hard wearing 1.4301 austenitic stainless steel (grade 304-A2), which, according to VBH, provides good resistance to weather, and pollution-associated corrosion. VBH advises that, depending on the design selected, the handles are available from 300mm–1,800mm high and can be used either singularly or in pairs on many door materials including composite, PVC-U, timber, aluminium and glass. www.vbhgb.com 2014 saw Edgetech UK launch an exciting range of products as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations. Having already added TruPlas and TruPlas SDL to its ever expanding product portfolio earlier this year, four more products have now been launched to create new opportunities for IGU manufacturers, fabricators and installers, in the form of Super Spacer Alpha, TruFit, TruSieve and TruShield. With thermal test results for new foam spacer, Super Spacer Alpha, at 0.13W/m²K, the product has been described as ‘the best performing warm edge spacer in the world’. Edgetech also launched *TruFit, an expanding tape that perfectly seals around the frame to the brickwork, making the complete installation energy efficient and weathertight. TruSieve desiccant was the third product addition, and is designed to give IGU manufacturers a ‘reliable and superior quality’ desiccant with high adsorption capacity, keeping the unit free from moisture. The final product was TruShield, a high quality coating that bonds to glass and makes it easy to clean. TruShield doesn’t depend on specific environmental conditions, which means it will work in all locations, including northfacing windows as well as those in the sun, so the benefits will be seen even on shaded glass. *See more about TruFit on page 78 of this issue. www.edgetechig.co.uk Product of the Year LivinROOF, the solid replacement roof system from Ultraframe has ended the year on a high, by securing the top industry award for product innovation – The G14 New Product of the Year. Not only does LivinROOF give Ultraframe’s network partners the opportunity to exploit the lucrative roof replacement market, it also gives the homeowner complete design flexibility in achieving a ‘unique contemporary space’, by incorporating glazed sections into the vaulted roof space at no extra cost – a feature that is proving incredibly popular amongst design conscious clients. According to Ultraframe, the ‘ease and speed’ of installation has been a key contributor towards unprecedented sales adoption but it’s also said to be the first solid roof replacement system that can tackle lean-to style roofs with shallow pitches as little as 5º. www.ultraframe-conservatories.co.uk BESTPRODUCTSOF2014 Sponsored by ERA: www.era-security.com
