Products & Services “One day all windows will be installed this way,” predicted Alan Fielder, director of sales and marketing at the recent launch of TruFit by Edgetech UK. “We’ve shown that TruFit is the best way to install windows for energy efficiency. And it has the added benefit of being quick (up to 20% faster) simple and very clean to fit.” TruFit is a pre-compressed foam sealing tape for window and door installation. It provides an effective thermal barrier at the edge gap between the window or door frame and the reveal. This ensures true energy rating performance and a long-life weather seal. The results in thermal imaging are impressive. Tests of installations with traditional sealant showed how much heat is lost at the edge of the windows. When the same window was fitted using TruFit there was on average 23% less heat lost around the window fitted. TruFit works by expanding to effectively seal all gaps and spaces between the frame and wall. TruFit also improves comfort levels because it reduces draughts caused by cold spots. www.edgetechig.co.uk Kitemarked high security Mila has launched what it claims is the UK’s only Kitemarked high security patio handle suitable for use with PVC-U, composite and timber doors. Part of the popular ProSecure range, the new patio handle has been successfully tested to TS007: 2012 and has achieved BSI’s two star Kitemark accreditation, as well as Secured by Design approval. The Kitemark is etched onto the internal backplate to provide reassurance for homeowners, while the Secured by Design logo is etched onto the external backplate as a passive deterrent to burglars. With what is described as ‘neat’, contemporary styling and a choice of six suited colours, the patio handle incorporates many of the design and security features which are said to have helped to make Mila’s ProSecure door handle such a success. This includes its patented FlexSecure technology, which is a force deflection feature that enables the ball joints to flex when under attack to prevent the fixing screws from shearing. www.mila.co.uk New door designer app Phoenix Doors has launched a new door designer app for its customers to use as an effective selling tool in the home. The app enables consumers to visualise what their new composite or PVC-U panel door will look like when fitted in their homes. Having downloaded the app, it allows installers to design an entrance door for homeowners using their iPads and then superimpose it onto a photo of their house, having first taken a photo of the customer’s existing front door. The full range of Phoenix Doors’ door styles, colours, finishes and glazing options can then be selected and dropped into the picture, providing a true representation of the purchaser’s desired product. “It’s a great practical sales aid for our customers and is already proving very popular, judging by the response we’ve had so far,” said Haydon Statham, Phoenix sales director. “It’s free to all Phoenix Doors customers who request it and is very easy-to-use.” www.phoenixdoorpanels.co.uk Future of sealing? Make it quicker Rapid and effective Bringing new depth with Parsol Ultra Grey Sealco’s bi-fold door manufacturing pack includes a router cutter and hinge jig to make it faster and more cost effective for joiners to produce high quality timber bi-folding doors. The specially designed router cutter reduces the time it takes to prepare the doorset and the hinge jig ensures accurate assembly first time. “Timber bi-folds are a great opportunity for joiners but they can be time consuming to manufacture,” said Derek Malcolm, MD of Sealco. “That’s why we have worked with customers to develop the Sealco bi-fold door manufacturing pack.” The Sealco bi-fold door manufacturing pack is free for customers when they order the PC Henderson Securefold bi-fold system. Designed for top hung bi-folds, the Securefold system comes complete with track, frame and door seals to ensure the best possible weatherproofing, with a choice of timber or aluminium thresholds. www.sealco-scotland.co.uk 78 December 2014 A new approach to the rapid and effective installation of windows is provided by ISO-TOP Winframer thermal insulating and load bearing bracket system now available from ISO-Chemie. ISO-TOP Winframer is a structurally solid, pre-fabricated installation frame manufactured in 1,200mm lengths, which can be quickly cut to length on site and secured in position using a single component adhesive and, if necessary, fixing screws. Initially supplied as 80mm wide, other sizes will be available soon. This enables installers to position and fit windows into the insulation area between the inner and outer walls quickly and easily, avoiding the need to use metal brackets that cause nonrepeating thermal bridging and give extensive problems when the windows need replacing. The composite brackets can bear heavy windows loads, including bi-fold doors, to provide a reliable, strong and high performance support frame. Installation is quick with windows attached directly and secured mechanically using either standard fixing screws or fixing lugs in the usual manner. www.iso-chemie.co.uk Parsol Ultra Grey from Saint-Gobain claims to bring a ‘new depth’ to the design potential of tinted glass, offering what is said to be ‘the most intense grey tint on the market but with all the same creative processing options of a high quality clear float glass’. Being a true body-tint means it can give anything from light grey to a virtually opaque appearance reminiscent of black onyx, simply by varying the thickness. A tinted variant of SGG Planiclear, it can be curved, tempered, sand blasted, screen printed or processed in all the same ways as a conventional clear glass. Parsol Ultra Grey offers a light reflectance of 4% and a transmittance ranging from 10% at 4mm thick down to less than 0.5% at 10mm. The level of privacy can also be controlled by varying the level of light in front of and behind the glass. www.saint-gobain.co.uk
