99 I N S TALLAT I O N S Panels are a sound feature Aluglaze panels, which feature powder coated or anodised aluminium bonded to an insulated core. In addition to the high performance insulated core material, the Aluglaze panels contained a sound reducing layer to achieve the acoustic reduction and wind loading criteria required for the refurbishment. The panels were required as part of a major refurbishment of the airports’ departure gates one to 10, to create more space and an open-plan layout. Danny Phelan, sales manager at Panel Systems, said: “We were delighted to assist with the design of the panels to enable the building to meet the acoustic and thermal requirements. Our wide range of insulating cores means our panels are able to meet ‘U’ values as low as 0.15w/m²k.” Aluglaze is available in all Interpon D, Syntha Pulvin and anodised colours and has been supplied to a wide variety of commercial, educational and healthcare environments. www.panelsystems.co.uk Glazing is top of the class Fabricator Whiteline and its installer partner, Window Wise (Sussex), have worked together to deliver the glazing at Cumnor House Sussex preparatory school’s new, £3 million science, technology, engineering & maths (STEM) building. Situated on the school site at Danehill, East Sussex, the new building contains three science labs, three classrooms and a design & technology suite. The school’s ‘strong environmental principles’ are said to be reflected in the incorporation of sustainable technology in the structure, including solar PV panels, air source heat pumps, rainwater Sheffield based Panel Systems, the manufacturer of decorative and composite panels, has recently supplied aluminium faced Aluglaze panels in metallic silver for London City Airport’s Terminal Building refurbishment. Panel Systems manufactured 170m² of harvesting and energy efficient glazing. Elements of each system are also visually exposed, to become educational tools for the school’s pupils. The STEM block’s extensive glazing scheme is said to maximise natural light and passive ventilation, while its scale and transparency it said to ‘soften’ the mass of the building. The installation consists of Whiteline manufactured AluK aluminium frames in architectural grey (RAL7016), with 37 flat contemporary sash casement windows and 15 door sets, all with slimline aesthetics, expertly fitted by Window Wise. www.whiteline.co.uk www.ggpmag.com February 2017
