SPOTLIGHT A skyward direction With predictions for further growth in the industry and the imminent launch of a new breed of aluminium orangery roof, it looks like 2015 will be the best year yet for Atlas Glazed Roof Solutions. Sales and marketing director, Gareth Thomas, talks to GGP about the company’s thriving business in aluminium conservatory and lantern roofs. The last two years has been an exciting time at Atlas with orders rolling in for our range of contemporary conservatory and lantern roofs. The industry has discovered the unique benefits of the Atlas roof, with its signature aesthetics satisfying a growing appetite for stylish home improvement products with no compromises. More and more installers have found that there is no other roof quite like the Atlas roof on the market. They’ve been impressed with aspects such as its unique hidden or rafter tie bar supports. These supports eliminate the need for any unsightly rod tie bars, which are characteristic in traditional PVC-U systems. We’re currently fabricating more than 85 roofs a week and are on course to increase production significantly this year. We have ambitious plans for expansion in 2015 and have taken on new office, sales and production staff. We’ve also invested in new machinery, which includes two new saws, to cope with demand. There is some evidence that the conservatory market has slowed down a little, with Palmer Market Research recently reporting that the conservatory sector fell by 2% in 2013. I believe that the ‘traditional’ conservatory market has matured to a degree and homeowners have become more sophisticated in their desires. They aspire to more contemporary style extensions, with slimmer profiles and more glazing in the roof to accentuate the space. Less profile, more glass Homeowners are impressed with the aesthetics that our roof offers when compared to its more bulky PVC-U counterparts, with many now asking for an ‘Atlas’ roof by name. With less visible profile and more glass, the Atlas glazed aluminium roof solution satisfies this demand. Slimmer, stronger and more thermally efficient than many of the other roof systems on the market, its appearance and performance is unsurpassed. The roof has been carefully designed to create a sleek appearance whilst maximising the views above. It eliminates the need for boss and hood fittings and features a slimline ridge, which is 70% thinner than the competition, and 40mm aluminium box rafters, which are 30% slimmer than any other rafter. Externally, the low sightlines of the Atlas roof ensure that it looks as good from the outside as it does on the inside. The great aesthetics do not come at the expense of performance however and the roof is still one of the UK’s strongest and most thermally efficient conservatory and lantern roof systems available. Thinner and lighter than its rivals, our range of standard and contemporary roof lanterns maximises the sense of light and space in any setting. When double glazed, our roof lantern rafters and ridge are over 100% more thermally efficient than other roof systems available on the market. And when triple glazed with 44mm units, the lantern can achieve an impressive ‘U’ value of 0.7 W/m²k. The dawn of the Skyroom The latest product to join the Atlas family is the new ‘Skyroom’. Available from early January, this product is a truly exciting advance in orangery design. Designed to cleverly bridge the gap between an economically priced conservatory and a high end orangery, the Skyroom boasts the same credentials as the Atlas roof; slimline technology, outstanding thermal performance and stylish design. Its unique raised ring beam creates the luxurious appearance of an orangery lantern rather than a standard conservatory. Internally, the Skyroom combines a subtle roof frame with large expanses of glass, whilst on the outside a unique 300mm aluminium cornice makes a strong design statement. It carries the hallmark of a premium product yet at a price that’s within the reach of many homeowners. Every Atlas roof is manufactured in our purpose built factory in Gloucester and plans are in place to expand our production capabilities. Our roofs are available in all RAL colours with lead times on orders of between two and three weeks for white, grey and black roofs. Our four most popular styles of roof lanterns are held in stock in white, grey, black, grey on white and black on white and in a number of different sizes. The lead time is just five days, which is perfect for builders who are always keen to avoid costly delays in their construction schedules. We’re passionate about this industry and this latest advance in orangery design, marks our ambition to drive the market. With homeowners seeking out more contemporary products and our trade customers so excited about the assets that the Skyroom has, I’m confident that this product will grab plenty of attention in the coming months. 56 www.ggp.com January 2015
