Universal
demand for
colour
Shropshire-based trade
fabricator, Universal Trade
Frames, has revealed that
the demand for its coloured
products has increased
throughout 2018 and is
showing little signs of slowing
down in the coming new year.
Brian Kruger, managing
director of Universal Trade
Frames, said: “Our installing
customers can choose from
the 28 coloured foil options
in the Spectus Spectrum
range foiled onto white,
brown, tan or cream pro le.
Alternatively, our frames can
be painted in any RAL colour
nish.
“Our colour offering across
our product range has
proven very popular and
our customers tell us that
this has helped them add
value to their contracts more
easily. Any installers who
don’t offer bespoke colours
in their portfolio are missing
a big opportunity as more
homeowners are starting to
understand what colour has
to offer.”
According to Universal, the
most popular colour options
in 2018 were anthracite grey
on white and anthracite grey
both sides. White foiled on
both sides has also increased
as homeowners look for the
authentic timber detailing
that white foil can deliver.
Universal says that cream foil
on both sides has also seen
an upturn along with black on
white.
Rosewood and golden oak
on both sides and on White
options have continued to
remain popular too.

Colin Jackson CBE has opened
the newly refurbished showroom
for Cardiff-based Heath Windows,
which includes an expanded display
of Solidor composite doors.
Colin Jackson is no stranger
to Heath Windows, having had
a Solidor in each of his last two
houses, and has also persuaded his
sister to join the list of celebrity
endorsements for the composite
door brand. When he was asked
if he could open the event, Colin
was reportedly ‘only too pleased’
to support his local installation
company.
The showroom refurbishment
included a new display board for all
the door hardware, which is said to
have already helped make the sale
of a Solidor easier in combination
with the online door designer. Some

Pro-Fitter, a training initiative for
window, door and conservatory
products, has been launched.
Pro-Fitter’s director, Lou Leka,
commented: “Many certifi cations
exist in our industry but none offer
bespoke training that allow people
to learn in a controlled environment
and have their competency levels
assessed. We are not another
competent person scheme. We are
not a vocational college. We teach
hands on skills and ability and
provide the lessons to give the ability
and confi dence to carry out specifi c
work.
“Becoming a Pro-Fitter separates
you from your peers and competitors
and gives homeowners and
businesses confi dence in you.”
Pro-Fitter is said to be a GQAaccredited
and recognised training
centre and a CITB recognised
training organisation. It is reported
to be supported by some of the
biggest names in the industry
including Eurocell, Spectus, AluK,
Würth Group, Synseal and Hurst
Plastics. Certain elements of the
Pro-Fitter Assessments fulfi l NVQ
requirements to enable direct
progression onto NVQ courses.
On completion of a Pro-Fitter
training course, an individual
installer will be listed in both the
Pro-Fitter and GQA directories and
given a GQA certifi cate and a photo
ID card so the grade they hold can
be checked. Lou said: “Up to 80%
of our annual marketing spend will
be directed at the homeowner, with
the clear message of the benefi ts
of choosing a Pro-Fitter registered
installer. This will generate
homeowner leads which will be
fi ltered down to the Pro-Fitter
network, thus providing installation
companies with value for their
certifi cation.”
Why ‘ask for Ali’?
Following on from positive feedback
received from its network of trade
fabricators and installers, Senior
Architectural Systems (SAS) says that
its latest case study video features a
‘glowing testimonial’ from two very
happy homeowners.
According to SAS, Ms Sexton
and Mr Hillard, who live in Leeds,
have joined dozens of domestic
customers up and down the country
who have chosen to ‘ask for Ali’ and
benefi ted from the addition of an
Ali Fold folding sliding aluminium
door in their homes. As part of the
couple’s renovation of their kitchen
and living space, they appointed
Alphamet Aluminium to undertake
the installation of the new
aluminium folding doors and were
said to be ‘delighted’ with both the
service and the product.
The aesthetics of the aluminium
doors was said to be a major selling
point, enhanced by the choice of
colour fi nishes available via Senior’s
in-house powder coating facility. The
couple were also thrilled with the
way the Ali Fold doors transformed
their home, bathing the interior with
light and providing uninterrupted
views of their garden.
The practical advantages of the
Ali Fold aluminium door system
were also praised by the couple
who have been impressed by how
easy it is to use and in particular,
by the fl exibility of opening one or
multiple door leaves to provide the
desired level of access. Ali Fold’s
‘exceptional’ thermal performance
was highlighted as another
important benefi t.
With a life expectancy in
excess of 40 years, Senior’s Ali
Fold aluminium doors have been
designed to be easy to fabricate,
install and maintain and are
available as a folding sliding bi-fold
style as well as both single and
double doors.
