NEW YEAR MESSAGES
2019 has been the year
that Certass Trade
Association has started
to remove barriers
and pain points for the local installer.
They really are the champions of our industry
and the only real link we have to homeowners, so to us, it makes
absolute sense to make sure they are supported in the best ways
That’s exactly what has been driving Certass initiatives.
Helping local installers to ‘get online’, we’ve built a package of
digital support that gives them online Building Certificates, a
unique business profile on the Certass site, a free online ratings
service where customers can leave feedback and personalised
We’ve also added ‘Business Essentials’. SME business owners
often need to wear lots of hats. When they’re not on-site fitting,
they’re out quoting, sorting the finances or managing their teams.

The Business Essentials package gives them access to more than
700 downloadable documents, including template contracts, letters
and checklists to help with their business admin. They also get
direct access to experienced HR, health and safety, legal and tax
advisors over the phone and free access to a debt recovery service.
Barriers to finance were lifted too – we teamed up with BNP
Paribas, the UK’s largest home improvement financers, to offer
free Joblogic licences. It’s a tool to help installers manage their
business all in one place and offer more payment options to
homeowners without applying for a consumer credit licence. They
joined us on our stand at FIT Show 2019 which saw the busiest
stand party thanks to us co-hosting the People in Glazing (PiGs)
All this has been joined together to bring a real added-value
package of benefits for installers that they get as part of their
Certass TA membership, or Certass Competent Person Scheme
The highlight of 2019 had to be walking away with four
trophies from the Trade Association Forum (TAF) Best Practice
Awards. Supported by Government, TAF is the trade association
of trade associations, encouraging and celebrating excellence in
2020 will be even bigger for Certass TA and we’re working on
how we can collaborate with more industry players to help tackle
the issues that are affecting all of us. We know that working
together is the best way to achieve the real progress that the
This year will see Abcell
celebrating our 30th
anniversary. When I reflect on the
past year, I can’t help thinking how
far we’ve come since we started up in 1990 and the parallels
between then and now.
A UK wracked with economic uncertainty – an impending
recession was the reason back then, while Brexit is at the forefront
of concern today. We also had a change of Prime Minister – Theresa
May made way for Boris Johnson, just as John Major replaced
It wasn’t easy launching a business in Britain at that time, but
with hard work, determination, investment and providing first
class customer service, Abcell has gone from strength to strength to
become the fabricator that installers need to know about.
The continued success that we have achieved over the years has
been due to our ability to expand and diversify, providing the
industry with the kind of quality products that they demand.
2019 has been another busy and exciting year for us.
We added the AluK range to our product suite, enabling us to
offer our customers an even greater choice, including slimline
aluminium windows, bi-folds and patio doors, as well as entrance
doors, heritage windows and verandas.
Slim and stylish are the key requirements for homeowners when
choosing their ideal windows and doors, and the AluK system
certainly puts a big tick in both of those boxes.
Also, as the UK’s biggest trade manufacturer of Guardian Warm

Having these two huge brands working together opens up a
whole range of opportunities to our customers and this looks to
gain even greater impetus in 2020.
The other brands that we manufacture – Global Conservatory,
Warmcore and Stratus Lanterns – have all enjoyed healthy growth
this year as the ‘improve not move’ trend continues to increase the
popularity of glazed extensions.
Operating from our 100,000ft2 state-of-the-art facility in
Birmingham, Abcell offers fast turnaround times on every product
we manufacture, along with a reliable, free delivery service
throughout the UK using our own fleet of vehicles.
We’re very proud of what we have achieved over the last three
decades and can’t wait to celebrate our 30th year in business with
customers and staff.
