Selling windows and doors
in a post Covid world
As home improvement sales recommence, social distancing will require a dramatic
change in the process of selling, surveying and installing windows, doors and
conservatories. But, says Rhonda Ridge, creator of AdminBase, making such
changes need not be so challenging.
Isn’t it strange how, even after a few weeks,
we all flinch when we see people on TV even
shaking hands and, God forbid – hugging!
Social distancing has become ingrained in our
souls and that will take some time to change even
when the pandemic is finally, truly over.
The Covid- virus will leave us with changes
in the way that we go about many every-day
routines and tasks, including the way that home
improvements are sold and installed. Whilst
inevitably we will have to visit homes to survey,
install and service windows, doors and other
products, we will develop techniques and
refinements to ensure that human contact with
the homeowner will be minimised and made
more efficient, whenever possible. At the very
least, get in and get out again, quickly and right
first time.
When the technology became available and
reliable, last year we launched a range of mobile

apps to fully complement the office-based
functions provided by AdminBase, which for
more than
years has been the go-to installer
administration system for hundreds of UK
companies and thousands of users. These apps
now allow salespeople, surveyors, fitters and
service engineers to work using the information
provided by their company’s central AdminBase
system, in forms that have been developed
specifically for each function.
They were all created with the specific aim
of making each function slicker, every stage
prompted by the app, with all data fed directly
into and from the central AdminBase system.
Even the most technophobic users have found
the apps to be easy and intuitive to use, with no
previous computing ability required.
And then, of course, came the lockdown and
out of this tragic period, a new emphasis on
working smarter, leaner, slicker and of course,
cleaner. And for reasons that we could never
have foreseen, AdminBase and especially
the AdminBase apps, have taken on a new
importance.
As I write, window and door factories have
begun opening their doors. And whilst there
will be no mass return to the installation of new
windows and doors for the purpose of improving
a property, the first green shoots of a relaxation
of lockdown have shown themselves and we
must hope and plan for a progressive return to
some sort of normality. But when salespeople
and surveyors, followed by installers some weeks
