104 I N S TALLAT I O N S When Blenheim Palace undertook its largest development for 200 years, it wanted glass doors that would enable visitors to flow into its visitor centre while allowing the ‘stunning vista’ of the estate to be seen. The stylish pair of automatic sliding doors powered by Geze UK’s Slimdrive SL operators do exactly that – and two years on, they have allowed more than 800,000 visitors to pass through the glass-ceilinged visitor centre designed to reflect the adjacent orangery. According to Geze, the Slimdrive SL automatic sliding door system was chosen because of its suitability for busy entrances. With an operator height of just 7cm, the Slimdrive SL is extremely compact, making it ‘almost invisible’ in elevation. It is also designed to be ‘virtually silent’ in operation. Geze’s patch fittings and floor springs were also fitted to the manual glass doors in the visitor centre, in ‘elegant’ ground stainless steel. www.geze.co.uk Specialist international friction-stay manufacturer and hardware supplier Cotswold Architectural Products recently had its products specified in a ‘highprofile’ project in Turkey’s capital, Istanbul. A large quantity of Cotswold’s HD26-180 hinges and HD102 friction arms were specified in Metropol Istanbul, which is said to be where global superstar Jennifer Lopez has a home. The project is due for completion in 2015 and was designed by RMJM Architects. Metropol Istanbul is a mixed development that combines one of the largest shopping malls in Turkey, home offices, residences, educational institutions, and a recreational area. A focal point of the project is the grand tower, which is designed as one of the tallest buildings in Europe, and is expected to attract 23 million visitors per year. www.ggp.com March 2015 A wide range of Metal Technology products has been installed at The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service's (NIFRS) new Community Fire Station and District Headquarters in Omagh, Northern Ireland. The station was designed by HLM Architects and represents the first of a series of innovative stations. It is equipped with an incident command room that will be used during major incidents or as a multi-agency facility where a co-ordinated response is required. The station will also be used for multi-agency resilience planning and emergency training exercises and has a dedicated transport and engineering workshop that is utilised by all 20 Fire Stations in Western Area Command. Integral to the design brief, Metal Technology’s System 17 Latitude curtain walling system delivered a strong aesthetic appeal to the expansive all-glass façade that combines structural integrity with weather performance and thermal enhancement. Interior comfort and environment management is enhanced by Metal Technology’s System 22 Brise Soleil and System 23 louvres. The glass facade is further complemented by System 4-35 Hi casement windows, System 10 commercial doors and System 5- 20DHi + high performance doors, offering a combination of security and performance whilst meeting the design requirements of the building. www.metaltechnology.com Metal Technology kits out new fire station The automatic choice Turkish delight
