GLASS & GLASS PROCESSING

report also stated that this demand
‘was not significantly impacted by
the UK’s vote to leave the EU.’
In Birmingham, Deloitte reported
that its four new office construction
starts this year totalled over
640,000ft2, something which had
helped maintain office construction
output at ‘a record high’.
“The pull-through of processed
glass on all of these projects is
immense,” continues Broxton.
“Internal partitioning, sliding doors,
balustrading – it’s a major platform
for UK glass processors and the take
away point is that, in the regions,
the market remains in growth,” says
Broxton. “The same goes for the use
of glass in their design. New ‘casual
office spaces’ combine open plan
with informal quiet and meeting
spaces. Separation, as far as it exists,
is delivered by glass.”
Heavy weight installations
Bohle offers an extensive range of
products targeted at the commercial
arena. This includes the recent
launch of MasterTrack, Bohle’s new
sliding door system.
Able to accommodate glass
thickness from 8mm to 12.76mm
and maximum weights of 60kg,
80kg, 120kg and 150kg, MasterTrack
is available as either a wall mounted
or ceiling hung system.
In addition to the flexibility
to handle some heavy weight
installations, its USP is that it
requires no onsite processing,
employing instead a simple but
highly effective clamping system.
This cuts installation time per door
to as little as 10-minutes.
It also uses specially developed
hydraulic dampeners, which can
be pre-set according to the weight
category for optimum cushioning.
The slim sightline system is available
in aluminium, stainless steel, black
and anthracite grey finishes.
“MasterTrack is perfect for the
commercial arena because of its load
capacity,” continues Broxton. “The
stated maximum weight is 150kg
but it’s been tested far beyond this,
not that we would recommend
exceeding prescribed weights.
The point is that MasterTrack can
handle 150kg and can do it very
comfortably, which means that it
offers exceptional reliability and
service in commercial uses.
“At the same time, these are also
pluses for domestic installations.
It eliminates any requirement for
processing of glass through the
application of a simple clamping
system, suitable for toughened or
laminated glass. That means that
it can be quickly and easily hung
MasterTrack sits alongside a
series of other products developed
specifically for the commercial sector
which deliver onsite efficiencies.
This includes the Vitris Portavant
150 internal sliding stacking system.
Launched by Bohle earlier this
year, it again offers a high degree
of flexibility, including use in
high-end residential or commercial
applications. The multi-track system
uses a telescopic mechanism, which
enables each individual door leaf
to be stacked alongside the other,
maximising opened space.
The FrameTec interior glass
partitioning system incorporates
similar design flexibility in an easyto
install frame system, supporting
full customisation. Supplied in
Select and Premium formats,
the Premium is said to deliver
‘exceptional’ sound insulation
of 33dB, while its also certified
to EN ISO 10140. In addition to
partitioning, internal sliding and
standard glass door hinges, locks
and closing mechanisms, Bohle

The EasyMount 6020 is another
new product launch from earlier
this year. A heavy-duty addition to
the EasyMount range, the 6020 can
reportedly withstand a linear load of
up to 1.5kN.
It also delivers savings of up to
30% on material costs plus time
savings because it’s counterbored.
This means that standard head
anchor bolts can be used to mount
the system rather than far more
expensive countersunk fixings.
“The commercial fit out sector
in London is perhaps cooling. It’s
difficult to say for certain that this
is directly attributable to Brexit,
other than to say that businesses are
far less likely to invest at times of
uncertainty,” says Broxton.
“If you’re looking at the location
of your global headquarters, the
shine and allure of London may
have tarnished a little.
“Regionally, however, it can be
argued that Brexit has had less
of an impact with horizons in
Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow
and Bristol, amongst others, going
through a period of transformation
as millions of square metres of
commercial office space rise from
