EUPC committee appoints new leader

Bernard Merkx, EUPC's managing director

The steering committee of European Plastics Converters (EUPC) has appointed Bernard Merkx as managing director. As of 1 January 2023, Bernard is set to replace Alexandre Dangis, who has been the head of EUPC for over 30 years. Alexandre is expected to remain senior advisor to the EUPC president but engage with other personal circular plastics projects as well.

Bernard said: “I am honoured to take over this position from Alexandre. I hope to continue to guide the European plastics converting industry in this important circular transition with all of its challenges ahead.”

Benoît Hennaut, EUPC’s president, added: “Bernard Merkx has been working with EUPC as building and construction division manager since beginning of this year and he has always been very close to all the EUPC activities. Additionally, his background in plastics recycling will certainly help to continue the work done by Alexandre on the circularity of our plastics industry in Europe. We have therefore chosen for continuity at the head of EUPC.”

As part of the PolyVision project launched in June 2022, EUPC’s leaders have started to reorganise its structure in order to prepare the association for the future. PolyVision is expected to further develop tools and find new ways to assist plastic converting companies in Europe that need advice and guidance in making the circular plastics transition, EUPC representatives have said.
