‘Beware of imitations’

solidorWhile the composite door market continues to grow, Solidor believes that it continues to lead in terms of product and service innovation, with other companies ‘seemingly eager to follow in its footsteps’. As a result, the company’s MD is urging installers to “beware of the imitators and ask for a Solidor by name!”

The Solidor second generation composite door is based on a solid hardwood core, with an exterior window grade laminate that is now offered in 17 colours, inside and out. Solidor claims that most of the composite door market is based on ‘GRP products that are foam filled and painted, stained or embossed in the main, with far fewer colour and woodgrain options in comparison’.

The solid hardwood core from Solidor is fully recyclable, something that the company says, ‘GRP can’t claim to be’. In addition, the window grade foils and laminates have proven to be ‘a perfect match’ to Solidor’s chosen door frame profile from Kömmerling. Solidor says that these foils and laminates have also proven to be incredibly durable, with a life expectancy in excess of 30 years, ‘while the problems with paint finishes have been well documented’.

According to Solidor, product innovation extends beyond the slabs and into hardware and the company has an exclusive agreement with Avantis for its door lock, which is said to offer ‘the largest hook and bolt system on the market’, thanks to a 25mm deep throw bi-directional hook and bolt.

Avantis cylinders are specifically designed to prevent bumping, tampering and drilling and feature a twin fix unique cylinder guard, providing what Solidor claims is an ‘unrivalled level of security and performance’ with Secure By Design approval.

Gareth Mobley, managing director of Solidor Group, said: “Our key product features are numerous, as our customers can testify and that means more sales and better closure rates. We’ve got an on going product development programme which will yield further innovations during the course of 2014. So beware of the imitators and ask for a Solidor by name!”
