Choose your composite with care

Composite doors are said to be the most popular type of entrance door in the UK. But Nathan Barr, MD of ODL Europe, sounds a note of caution: “Composite doors provide the level of performance homeowners are looking for. But if you want customers who are still delighted with you and your work years after the job completed, you need to choose your composite door range with care.

“The Capstone door slab has got a worldwide pedigree and has proved itself time and time again. And in the Capstone SecureDesign door slab, the best just got better.”

According to ODL, the aesthetics, quality and durability of the slab are ‘second to none’. It features a high-density polyurethane foam core which has been designed and engineered for the best ‘flowability’ of the foam, reducing possible voids, bulging and uneven surfaces. The use of polypropylene is said to eliminate water absorption, so the doors will not bulge or rot, even if water intrudes through openings from seals failing on glass or letterplates.

The SecureDesign boards are injection moulded for consistent performance in every door and the woodgrain is taken from real oak woodgrain with the stain being applied by hand.
With regards to security, the SecureDesign door slab is built into the door so it’s an integral part of the door core, rather than ‘floating’ in it. The SecureDesign door slab passes the cut through test and meets the requirements of PAS 24:2016.

The new slab is also similar in weight to LVL which means that fabricators can retain a consistent fabrication practice but achieve an improved quality of door.
