Element Materials Technology has achieved UKAS accreditation for its built environment laboratory in Wednesbury to test letterplate assemblies and slide-through boxes in line with TS008: 2022. The West-Midlands-based site in now one of a select few approved laboratory facilities that are authorised by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to test products against the new technical specification, which supersedes TS008: 2015.

The Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) introduced the new document last June as an updated means of evaluation against opportunist attacks via letterplate assemblies and slide-through boxes. Element’s UKAS accreditation for its Wednesbury laboratory also covers the testing of door cylinders in line with TS007: 2014 + A2: 2018. The business’ representatives argue that this makes Element’s Wednesbury lab one of the UK’s leading laboratories for physical security and burglar resistance testing.

Successful testing in line with TS 008: 2022 or TS 007: 2018 is a key requirement for manufacturers of letterplate assemblies, slide-through boxes and door cylinders that want to successfully complete PAS 24 testing. The test also provides compliance with the regulatory requirements of Document Q of the building regulations, and for entry into the Secured by Design licence scheme.

“Letterbox crime is a very real threat to residents across the country,” explained Christopher Bryan, senior test engineer for Element Materials Technology. “Door furniture and hardware manufacturers are acutely aware of the home security benefits that PAS 24-compliant letterplate assembles and slide-through boxes can provide, and many have been working hard to develop solutions which can out think common criminal practice to keep occupants and their belongings safe.

“With the DHF making several important updates to TS 008, the UKAS accreditation of our Wednesbury laboratory significantly enhances available testing capacity for manufacturers looking to put their products at the forefront of home protection.” For more information, visit the Element website.
