Going for gold

Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents AwardDeceuninck has just been awarded gold in RoSPA’s (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) annual occupation health and safety awards, for the second year running. Peter Rich, Deceuninck’s operations manager, accepted the award at the ceremony held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel.

The RoSPA awards scheme recognises commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention. The scheme not only looks at accident records, but also entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement. David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement deserve recognition. Deceuninck has shown that it is committed to striving for such improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award.”

Peter Rich added: “Our people are our most important asset. They have a right to expect a safe and healthy working environment and we work hard to ensure that we provide it. We don’t implement or revise procedures or aim to improve year on year in order to win awards, but it is great to be recognised for our commitment.”

The RoSPA awards scheme dates back 57 years and is the largest and longest running programme of its kind in the UK. It is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas.

Health and safety in the workplace often gets a bad press. But there can be no doubt that organisations that strive to provide a safe and healthy workplace are demonstrating a clear commitment to the wellbeing of their staff and to quality throughout the business. Deceuninck is one such company.
