2013 ‘ends on a high’ for installations

fensa2013 saw the first year-on-year growth in notifications of installations of replacement windows and doors in domestic properties since 2007, up 4.5% on 2012, says FENSA.

December ended the year on a high, with notifications up 25% on December 2012. The last quarter of the year was up 5.7% on the same period last year, after a flat October (+0.5%) and decline in November (-3.3%).

While this was the first time a third consecutive quarter of growth has been recorded since FENSA began collating installation numbers, at 702,495, the total number of installations for 2013 was still down 27% on the figure for 2007.

Eight months saw increased installations over the same month in the previous year in 2013, compared to just four in 2012:

April 2013 +11.3%
May 2013 +2.9%
June 2013 +12%
July 2013 +9.9%
August 2013 +5.5%
September 2013 +13.2%
October 2013 +0.5%
December 2013 +25.2%

“FENSA is very pleased to report these far more encouraging installation figures for our industry,” commented FENSA managing director, Chris Mayne. “Though we need to remember that installations are still well down on their highest point back in 2007, the industry is now going in the right direction which we fervently hope will continue through 2014. In these releases we refer back to pre-recession levels of notifications – but our focus is on the market as it is today and going forward.”

FENSA will continue to publish quarterly figures on the total number of notifications of replacement windows and doors installed in domestic properties during 2014.
