ERA secures 100% green energy deal

The ERA headquarters in the West Midlands is now 100% powered by renewable energy, thanks to an agreement signed by leaders of the home security and fenestration component provider. The firm’s power purchase agreement is backed by a Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin certificate confirms the energy source.

The move demonstrates a commitment to reduce the business’ Scope 2 emissions, which is validated by Science Based Target Initiatives, according to ERA’s representatives. The commitment aligns with the validated targets of ERA’s parent company, Tyman, to make an absolute scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emission reduction of 46.2% by 2030.

The Tyman group also aims to reduce absolute scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions from purchased goods and services by 27.5% within the same timeframe. This forms part of the business’ wider commitment to achieving sustainable operations. Tyman’s commitment includes providing 100% sustainable packaging across the group by 2026, and updating company cars to all-electric alternatives, in addition to the installation of EV charging points.

Lara Coutinho, sustainability programme manager for ERA, said: “Across all areas of the business, we are identifying how we can successfully improve the environmental efficiency of our operations as part of the Tyman 2030 roadmap, which reflects our ambition to transform the environmental performance of both our operations and products.”

Leaders of ERA appointed Lara as the company’s new sustainability programme manager earlier this year. One of Lara’s first projects is to work on the most pressing deadline set out on the Tyman sustainability roadmap, which promises to eliminate single-use plastic and deliver sustainable packaging across the group by 2026. Read more about Lara’s appointment in this article, published earlier this year.
