Industry supports Rapierstar’s charity golf event

16 golfers from the UK window industry competed in Rapierstar’s fundraising golf day this year. The annual event is in aid of GM Fundraising (GMF), which exists to support Hope House Children’s Hospices.

Rapierstar’s event preceded the GMF Cup, a Ryder-Cup-style event which is due to take place next week in Quinta do Lago, Portugal, from 14 to 16 September. David Furness, Rapierstar’s managing director, and his colleagues organised the fastener business’ event at the Astbury Golf Club in Cheshire.

Four teams of four took part in a competitive battle that was described as including “some moments of brilliance, and others that may be best forgotten!”

The ultimate honour went to “Team Nigel”: Nigel Hutchinson, managing director of Ingenious Locks and Hardware; Dave Jones, former managing director of Veka; Mark Westbrook managing director of Frame Express; and Dean Hodges, managing director of BM Aluminium.

David Stockwell, head of installations for Business Micros, won the prize for the longest drive, while Chris Powell, managing director of CWG, took the prize for ‘nearest the hole’.

“Thanks to everyone who braved the weather to take part in our golf day,” said David. “Thankfully the rain wasn’t enough to spoil what was a fantastic day, and excellent preparation for the GMF Cup.

“We saw plenty of the competitive spirit that always makes this annual challenge at Astbury a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We’re delighted to support GM Fundraising in this way, and wish all those taking part in the GMF Cup the very best of luck.”

GM Fundraising supports Hope House Children’s Hospices, which works to ensure that no one faces the death of a child alone. More than 95% of Hope House’s annual costs are met through charitable donations. GM Fundraising is its largest single donor.
