London PVC-U market share falls to 39% as regional gap widens

PVC-U continues to underpin the UK window and door sector, but new data from Tommy Trinder points to a deepening regional split in material choice.

The analysis, covering more than one million quoted items from over 700 installers using the Tommy Trinder platform, shows PVC-U still accounts for 79% of installed products nationwide, with the material retaining 61% of market share by value.

However, the most striking trend is the divergence between London and the rest of the country. In the capital, PVC-U’s market share has slipped to 39%, down from 48% in 2022, as aluminium maintains its stronghold in high-end urban and architectural applications.
Beyond London and the Home Counties, PVC-U remains the clear frontrunner, reaching up to 90% market share in some regions.

At the premium end of the market, flush casements have seen a decline in value share as pricing pressures intensify.

“As more installers began offering flush, competition increased, and we saw prices starting to drop,” said Chris Brundson, founder and CEO of Tommy Trinder. “While the volume of flush sash quoted has remained stable, their overall share in terms of value has dipped – from 21% in 2022 to 16% now. Basically, flush casements have moved from being a high-margin niche, to becoming part of an installer’s staple offering.”

The report also highlights a sustained appetite for colour. Foiled finishes now account for 35% of PVC-U windows, while 63% of flush products are specified in foiled options.

Demand for Tommy Trinder’s quoting platform continues to grow, with more than 230 installation firms adopting the software in 2025.

“The ability to present complex products ranges quickly and easily has never been more important, and with growing diversity of materials, the ability combine PVC-U, aluminium, timber and steel from multiple fabricators in one seamless presentation has become pretty much vital,” added Chris.
