Nationwide Windows and Doors (NWD) and its retail sister company, Future Homes, are now accredited living wage employers, which means that the business’ staff members earn a wage that is generally accepted as allowing for real life, rather than survival. The living wage is based on the cost of living, and is voluntarily paid by more than 12,000 employers in the UK, according to representatives of the Living Wage Foundation.

“With interest rates and fuel costs rising, and the UK in the midst of a cost of living crisis, it’s important that now more than ever British workers are paid fairly and that businesses realise and value their contributions,” said John Whalley, NWD’s managing director. “At Nationwide, we’ve always considered our workforce to be part of the Nationwide family.

“That’s why we’ve always been committed to paying a wage that we consider fair, rather than sticking to the minimum wage. It’s important to make our team members feel valued and an important part of our success.

“We’re very proud to now be Living-Wage-accredited, showing our public commitment to fair play and being responsible employers.”

NWD employs 280 staff at its Rugby headquarters, and throughout depots across England and Wales. The current UK living wage is £10.90 an hour (£11.95 in London).

Accredited employers can display the Living Wage Employer mark to recognise a commitment to paying staff the living wage. This can be in the form of a plaque, merchandise or digital assets. Accredited living wage employers are also listed on the Living Wage Foundation’s website on the employer map.
