WindowMaster and NorDan unveil smoke ventilation for commercial facades

Ventilation specialist WindowMaster and window manufacturer NorDan have confirmed that NorDan’s smoke ventilation window systems are now UKCA marked to EN 12101‑2.

The certification applies to NorDan’s NSHEV Side Opening, NSHEV Side Hinged and NSHEV Top Opening solutions, all of which will be supplied with WindowMaster’s proprietary smoke control actuators. The development strengthens compliance with UK legislation and streamlines specification for project teams seeking assured, fully tested smoke ventilation options.

Smoke ventilation plays a critical role in protecting building occupants, particularly by clearing smoke from escape routes such as stairwells and corridors during a fire. To ensure these systems perform reliably under demanding conditions, products must demonstrate proven resilience and carry the appropriate UKCA marking.

The newly certified systems are UKCA marked to EN 12101‑2, covering:

  • Annex B: Aerodynamic testing
  • Annex C: Reliability testing (1000 + 10,000 dual‑purpose ventilators)
  • Annex E: Low ambient temperature testing, T (‑15)
  • Annex F: Resistance to wind load, tested to 2000Pa
  • Annex G: Resistance to heat, tested to class B300
  • Annex H: “Reaction to fire” testing, classification E

The project underscores both companies’ commitment to delivering safe, compliant, and high‑performance facade solutions for the commercial sector.

“You can never compromise on fire safety, whatever the setting,” explained Erik Boyter, CEO of WindowMaster. “In commercial buildings, asset owners, occupants and visitors alike need to know they are protected from any eventuality. Smoke is one of the biggest causes of fire-related deaths, so any solution that can quickly remove it from the building interiors significantly reduces the risk. NorDan shares our vision for making the commercial built environment as safe as possible, and we’re proud to partner with them on this pioneering project.”
