Joe Montague is the new operations manager at Mila and is already making a positive impact on the service which the company delivers to customers.
Heading up a 19-strong team, Joe has overall responsibility for Mila’s warehouse operation in Daventry. He is also managing stock control, health and safety and Mila’s late stage customisation service, which provides bespoke product and packaging options.
With Mila routinely achieving On Time In Full service performance of more than 99%, Joe’s objective is to deliver incremental improvements in the customer experience through an even greater focus on stock accuracy and effective management of Mila’s third party delivery operation.
He said: “Our supply chain operation is hugely impressive so we can guarantee to have items on our shelves when our customers want them. Now, the ongoing improvements we are making in stock counts and in delivery performance are enhancing our service to customers still further.”
Joe has already introduced new processes such as forward order picking before the start of every month so that Mila can seamlessly manage the spike in orders which typically occurs then.
He is also implementing a system upgrade in the warehouse IT management system to improve efficiency and is working closely with a number of customers to analyse the benefits of other new initiatives such as more eco-friendly reusable stillages and packaging.
He added: “I am very much concerned with ensuring that Mila delivers a logistics service which delights customers. There are lots of new initiatives being considered alongside the new packaging, such as targeted, timed deliveries; and moving forward I’ll be looking to work closely with customers to see how these can be successfully introduced.”
Joe has 30 years’ experience in logistics and has worked in both manufacturing and distribution operations and for third party contractors. He began his career in the grocery sector but most recently held senior roles in the construction industry managing logistics for a roofing products manufacturer and a bathroom and plumbing supplier.
