Six-month secondment

Martin Thurley, operations director of Premdor, has joined Door-Stop for a six-month secondment. Both companies are UK divisions of door manufacturer, Masonite International Corporation.

Martin is MBA qualified and has extensive senior management experience in lean manufacturing, ISO 9001 quality management systems and health and safety management. Martin is ideally placed to offer ‘operational horsepower’ and support to Door-Stop. He will head up projects relating to Door-Stop’s five-year growth plan, involving capital investment, factory layout and management structure. “My primary concerns are safety, quality and output in this order of priority. Safety first – always,” said Martin.

Martin’s role is to help the composite door manufacturer achieve the next stage of growth through operations with even more efficient manufacturing, development and delivery of new products and enhanced customer service.

“I’m focusing on safety, quality and efficiency,” said Martin, “We’re aiming for continuous improvement in operations by examining and perfecting factory layout and manufacturing. We’re taking a serious approach to achieving ‘right first time’ on all our products through each process.”

As a qualified health and safety manager, Martin is passionate about the issue. He said: “It’s about more than legal compliance. The welfare of everyone in the business and everyone who comes into contact with our business is paramount.”
