A £45,000 installation of Hakon glass storage racks from Flat Glass Solutions Ltd has become a key component of CT Glass’s wider £400,000 investment in a new combination cutting line. The Bradford‑based processor has installed three sets of Hakon racks, enabling the safe and efficient handling of cut remnants from its newly commissioned combi line and completing the workflow of the upgraded cutting process.
CT Glass has seen around 20% growth over the past two years and has been investing heavily in new assets to maintain service levels and delivery performance.
“We have a 95,000 square foot processing facility here in Bradford, which delivers toughened and laminated flat glass to the commercial fit-out market the length and breadth of the UK. Every pound we invest must have a beneficial impact on the overall delivery of our products to our client base,” said CT Glass managing director Gary Thirkell. “Integrating FGS’ Hakon racks was fundamental to the overall efficiency of the new cutting line, enabling us to stack and store remnants in a way that saves space, protects the glass, and maximises overall efficiencies.”
Head of commercial John Day highlighted the importance of production efficiency in today’s market: “The architectural glazing market is becoming increasingly consolidated, and production efficiencies are crucial for us to maintain a competitive edge. The Hakon racks are quite simply the simplest and most cost-effective method of streamlining processing lines – freeing up space and resources to get product out the door quicker.”
FGS is the UK distribution partner for Hakon, a Czech manufacturer specialising in industrial glass storage solutions. The frame racks allow glass of varying sizes to be stacked and manoeuvred using a straightforward drawer system.
“The racks are an essential element to an overall glass processing line that can often be overlooked,” said FGS managing director David Cahill. “The growth experienced by CT Glass leads to an increase in remnants off the cutting line, which in turn required an improvement to storage methods. The company approached us to fill in this obvious gap in the production line, which we were able to do quickly and cost-effectively.”
CT Glass remains one of the UK’s leading independent processors, employing around 70 people at its 95,000 sq ft Bradford facility and supplying high‑specification flat glass to architectural and commercial projects nationwide.
