Laminate glass investment

Cornwall Glass says it has brought increased flexibility to its laminate offer with six-figure investment in a new Tema EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) laminated glass line.

Installed at the glass processor and IGU specialist’s site in Highbridge, Somerset, it supports Cornwall Glass in bringing increased agility to laminate glass supply.

This includes the capacity to process individual sheets of 2,500 x 3,600mm, which according to Simon Hares, general manager at Cornwall Glass Highbridge, represents a significant advantage for its customers: “The fact that we can process laminate glass here, in-house gives us far greater flexibility in the service we can offer to our customers.

“We’ve been asked more and more frequently for laminate and in processing it here, we can significantly reduce our lead times and also introduce greater flexibility to our product offer.”

The Tema LPB2536 line gives Cornwall Glass Highbridge capacity to manufacture a wide range of laminate products including glass for balustrading, canopies, staircases and walk-on floors and ceilings, in addition to laminated IGUs.

Hares continued: “Growth has come from a number of different areas. The obvious one is balustrading which is being used in growing volumes in commercial settings but almost just as significantly – domestically.

“That’s been delivering significant pull-through of double laminates, ranging from 17.5 to 21.5mm. We can also offer triple laminates, so around 33m for use in specialist applications, for example walk-on floors and glass ceilings.

“These are all growth areas and we can offer real flexibility in supporting our customers far more effectively as they take advantage of them.”
