New metrics room delivers ‘green’ light for Mercury

The Mercury Glazing Supplies team now has a dedicated metrics room, which is being celebrated as the first step of the fabricator’s lean manufacturing plan. Added to this, the company has achieved its first ‘green’ day – where performance has been reported as meeting or exceeding set targets – across all three factories, just 12 weeks after implementing the lean strategy.

“The establishment of the metrics room and the successful realisation of our first ‘green’ day signifies our dedication to continuous improvement and operational excellence,” said Alan Hockey, manufacturing manager for Mercury. “This is just the beginning of our journey to deliver even greater value to our customers, and to uphold our reputation as a leading specialist fabricator.”

The metrics room serves as a central hub for data collection and manufacturing analysis. By leveraging data-driven insights, the company’s leaders aim to optimise manufacturing processes, enhance efficiency and deliver continued customer value.

“The system evaluates performance metrics against predetermined thresholds, categorising them as either ‘red’, for areas that require attention and improvement, or ‘green’ for areas that meet or exceed targets,” Alan went on to explain. “This approach enables the company to focus its efforts on areas that will yield the greatest impact on efficiency and quality.

“Achieving our first ‘green’ day across all three factories marks a significant milestone in our lean journey and demonstrates the effectiveness of the new metrics room and the commitment of the entire team.”
