A PVC profile recycling project called Oknorec was introduced to the Polish market during the General Assembly of the European PVC Profile Association (EPPA) last week. Two new leaders of the EPPA were also announced at the assembly on 25 May: Alexander Franke, who works for Profine, is the organisation’s new president; Götz Schmiedeknecht, from Salamander, is now vice president. The conference was hosted by the Polish Window Association.

The Oknorec profile recycling project was created to raise awareness about the recyclability of old PVC window profiles. The primary focus of leaders behind the project is to enhance the collection processes for PVC profiles, ensure proper recycling and minimise waste. The Oknorec project is directly aligned with the EPPA’s goals within the framework of the VinylPlus Sustainability Commitment 2030, its representatives have reported.

“We have strengthened our organisation and intensified our dialogue with key decision makers on the European level,” explained the outgoing president of the EPPA, Carsten Heuer. “This positions the association well to take the much-needed next steps to make window replacement a reality in the context of the EU renovation wave.”

During the assembly, the EPPA’s new leaders outlined three key priorities for the year:
• ‘Accelerate the implementation of the EU renovation wave’
• Continue positioning PVC profile systems as a blueprint for product circularity, and
• Enhance sustainability along the supply chain of PVC profile systems.

The EPPA is also committed to intensifying collaboration with its national association members. “I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year where we will work to achieve the association’s strategic priorities and drive sustainable growth in the PVC profile systems industry,” said Alexander.
