Raising the rooflights

Howells Patent Glazing has announced the launch of its GQA approved rooflight familiarisation workshop, the first GQA approved rooflight course in the UK.

Open to all, the six-hour, fully accredited workshop is said to provide a valuable insight into the construction of aluminium rooflights and is designed to improve technical and practical understanding.

According to Howells, trainees will learn about the components, assembly and installation of the company’s slimline rooflight, with hands-on experience.

The familiarisation course draws on the company’s 40+ years’ in the fenestration industry, with examples of do’s and don’ts and what to look out for. It is said to be relevant to sales representatives and installers alike.

Successful completion of the GQA approved rooflight familiarisation workshop will result in a Howells certificate of attendance and the opportunity to gain a GQA certificate and skills card.

With ‘Centre Approved Status’, Howells says it will host regular courses at its base in Cradley Heath, Birmingham. Alternative locations are available on request. The workshop is provided by GQA accredited trainers, ASPIRE.

As an approved centre, Howells is guided, supported and audited by industry experienced External Quality Advisors (EQAs), designed to give peace of mind that the workshop remains fully compliant at all times.

Places are chargeable and limited to six per training session, with one session per month. The charge can be claimed back against the purchase of a Howells hipped rooflight.

The company recently hosted an open day to formally mark the launch of the rooflight familiarisation workshop. Howells welcomed customers, contractors and installers alongside representatives from education providers and local authorities. The event was supported by Councillor Ann Shackleton of Cradley Heath and Old Hill Ward.

Howells says it is committed to making manufacturing and fenestration careers of choice while also addressing the skills gap, as such the workshop is affiliated with Building Our Skills. Howells business development manager, Tracey Jackson is said to be the first ‘Champion Supporter’ of the Building Our Skills campaign.
