Helios takes shape in the Cotswolds

20160419_112002SMART and Schueco aluminium fabricator, Alumen, says that it is ‘getting creative’ with its recently launched range of rooflights, by manufacturing a unique octagon version from its Helios range.

Alan Robinson, Alumen’s managing director, said: “As an experienced aluminium fabricator, with a heritage in manufacturing a wide range of products, we love a challenge and this bespoke request gave us the perfect chance to test the capabilities of the Helios design.

“The Helios is a contemporary square rooflight with a raised chamfered edge. Available as fixed or with a smooth chain operated manual or electric opener, the options on size and shape are endless – as demonstrated in this unique project. This project required us to fabricate the rooflight into an octagon shape to form the centre of the roof in a garden pavilion. The pavilion, part of a hand carved Cotswold stone building in a courtyard of outbuildings, will be used to hold chamber music concerts amongst other events.

“The rooflight itself was large, spanning 2,387mm and weighing nearly 200Kg. It had to be lifted into place using glass lifters and a crane and, despite the unpredictable weather we have been experiencing, was installed according to plan.

“The ‘Rooflights from Alumen’ range offers everything you would expect from a rooflight or lantern with exceptional quality and attention to detail. Along with outstanding thermal properties via thermally broken aluminium profiles, they can be paired with a wide variety of glazing options to provide the thermal and solar performance you require. Standard sizes ranging up to 3,000mm x 1,000mm are in stock prices start as low as £595. All standard stock items are available, via our online shop, on next day delivery across the UK.”
