Better features and more design options from Prefix

Conser

ConserThe market for solid, insulated roofs is growing strongly, yet there is a ‘gulf in performance’ between all the major systems according to Prefix Systems, the UK independent specialist for the extended living market.

Prefix believes that the combination of product design and materials used make its own Garden Room roof the ‘stand out product’ in the sector. Prefix’s Garden Room is said to be structurally robust, thanks to the use of structural grade 6082 aluminium alloy and not ‘inferior’ general grade 6063, which, according to Prefix, is used on other solid roof systems in the market. Fixed joints also support the eaves and ridge to accommodate the additional weight loading.

Garden Room was several years in development with Prefix structural engineer, Tim Harris and according to Prefix, it has been designed as a ‘roofing platform for the future’, as the contemporary Urban Room roof, which shares the same chassis, ‘ably shows’. There are also further developments planned for early 2016, in time for the FIT Show.

Beyond material specifications and fixing detail, Prefix maintains that configurability is ‘equally important’, particularly given the prominence of the replacement conservatory market. The company says that a conservatory, by design, is different to that of a typical extension and therefore insulated solid roofs need to be equally adaptive. For this reason, the Garden Room roof has been designed to cater for valleys, large span box gutters and pitches from 5 to 40º. Drop valleys, different height ridges and spans up to 6m can also be incorporated.

Chris Baron, co-director at Prefix Systems, commented: “Our customers are telling us that most solid, insulated roofs have a limited market by design and indeed many aren’t prefabricated to the required standard. It’s for this very reason we’ve spent considerable resources in developing what is the most structurally sound and configurable roof in the sector.

He continued: “Installation companies looking for the most robust and fitter friendly solution should look at Garden Room; it’s our platform for the extended living market for the future.”
