Slimline ridge helps wow the Renshaws

An orangery-style home extension in Hampshire benefitted from an enhancement to Ultraframe’s Classic roof system: the slimline ridge. The delighted homeowners said that the slimline ridge feature allowed them to create the modern, seamless effect they desired.

The Renshaw family live in a beautiful, arts-and-crafts-style house in Lymington, Hampshire. While their home was already large, the family wanted a new living space to add a contemporary twist to their home, and to blur the line between their home and garden.

Their local Ultraframe Ultra Installer – Forest Edge Home Improvements – is located a stone’s throw from the property. The homeowners were therefore able to design a stunning orangery-style extension using the newly-enhanced Classic Roof. The Classic system benefited from a series of enhancements in January 2021, including the slimline ridge, which features on this project.

Explaining more about the project, homeowner Mrs Renshaw said: “We really wanted to enjoy the views of our garden by living on the back of our home, and we decided that an orangery would be a beautiful way to do this. After meeting with James from Forest Edge Home Improvements, he showed us the new-look Ultraframe Classic roof, the internal pelmet system and the external cornice. Together, they allowed us to create the effect we wanted, but in a much more cost-efficient and contemporary way than a traditionally built orangery.”

Forest Edge designed an 8m-wide contemporary extension. Topped with a Classic aluminium roof in contemporary black, the extension also features a two-tier black cornice. Black aluminium bi-folds span the full width of the extension, ensuring a seamless link to the garden and complementing the aluminium Classic Roof.

Commenting about the project, Alex Hewitt, Ultraframe’s marketing director, said: “This stunning installation by Forest Edge is the perfect example of how Classic – our original roof, with a heritage of almost 40 years – can be the perfect choice for contemporary orangery extensions. The slimline ridge offers a completely different aesthetic to the usual large Classic radius end. Coupled with an aluminium finish to the roof and aluminium bi-folds, it’s hard to believe that this ultra-modern roof is the industry’s longest established conservatory roof system. Of course, we’ve been refining the system throughout the years, and the slimline ridge has brought it right up to date for today’s modern conservatory and extension requirements.”

Mrs Renshaw said: “Not only have we gained a lot of extra square footage, our new extension also has the wow factor due to the glass roof and bi-fold doors which let in lots of natural light, whatever the weather. We love it, and now spend all our time in the new room! The customer service from Forest Edge Home Improvements was excellent throughout and we would highly recommend them.”

A bi-fold support beam, a super bolster, a chambered box gutter and an enhanced structural design guide were also launched for the Classic Roof in January, in addition to the slimline ridge. To find out more, visit www.ultraframetrade.co.uk.
