1,000th door leaves paint plant

The 1,000th door was recently painted and despatched from Distinction Doors’ new paint plant.

Distinction’s marketing director, Chantel Roach, said:

“We have a policy of continuous investment in our business and the paint plant was part of that. Bringing our painting in-house has given us a wealth of benefits for our customers and we are already seeing the advantages of improved quality, lead times and cost in this area. Crucially, it also means that the colour warranty on our doors comes from us, as the door and cassette provider, rather than a third party.

“Because we’re much closer to the painting process we’re much more aware of trends, which is giving us great market insight that we can use to support our customers. The most popular colour of our first 1,000 doors was Gunmetal, reflecting the trend for understated sophistication.”

The £185,000 paint plant investment at Distinction’s Tankersley headquarters in South Yorkshire has been equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including a gas catalytic drying system with infrared panels and control system to speed up the drying process without damaging the product. It is also equipped with a breathing air unit that operates at -40º degree dew point, which will ensure that all contaminants are removed from both the spray gun and breathing equipment before use, improving finished quality as well as health and safety procedures.

The plant is also helping Distinction Doors to increase its commitment to the environment due to its heat recovery system, which uses the waste heat generated by the site’s compressors to create a thermostatically controlled environment in the paint booth, preparation area and offices above.
