Staff of the trade fabricator Modplan are celebrating the business’ 50th anniversary this month. “We are delighted to be celebrating this important business milestone,” said David Burles, the business’ founder and CEO. “It’s an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come but also where we want to go next.”

Modplan began as a DIY and light builders’ outlet in south Wales. Today it is a multi-million-pound trade business manufacturing PVC-U windows, doors and conservatory roofs. The business operates from four sites housing eight fabrication plants, covers more than 165,000ft² and employs 250+ people.

David is supported by managing director Heidi Sachs, who joined the company in 1983. Her appointment to the directorship was the start of a 40-year business partnership that has been instrumental to the company’s success, the business’ representative has reported.

What has also been vital is the experience of Modplan’s wider team – there is more than 1,700 years of experience in the business, combined. David is also keen to point out his mother’s huge contribution to the business: Mrs Burles began working for Modplan in 1973 and only stepped down at the age of 92.

During the course of its 50-year history, Modplan has weathered some challenging times, including economic downturns and miners’ strikes. The fabricator’s leaders attribute the business’ success to two things: first, the ‘Modplan Mission’ – the team’s focus on continually exceeding customers’ increasing expectations, staying ahead of the market curve and offering customers a quality portfolio supported by a proactive partnership ethos. It is an approach that has drawn many customers to stay working with the company for decades, according to the business’ representative. The second is the strength and longevity of Modplan’s team over the years.

Looking ahead, David said: “We have a growing business portfolio and we’re looking forward to continuing the journey with our customers and our team. Here’s to the next chapter of the Modplan journey.” Read more about the business on Modplan’s website.
