Rapierstar: The little big things

Rapierstar

The Rapierstar team works hard to educate the industry about the importance of the smallest components, as Andy Holland, the company’s technical and marketing manager, explains.

“Businesses take fenestration screws a little for granted,” said Andy. “But it is important to use the right fixings for every fenestration job, as well as to raise awareness about the sheer size of the window fixing sector, and to make sure that problems with products are caught early.

“Do you know many tiny screws are used in the fenestration industry for a 1,000mm square casement unit in the UK and Ireland, daily? It’s 2.5m a day,” Andy revealed. “We supply the little things that hold it all together. Without them, it all falls apart.

“But we don’t just supply screws. We supply a service to the fenestration industry across the board. We will come in and we will talk to you, look at what fasteners you are using and find out whether it fits the bill.

“We’ll give you this health check for free, and we’ll probably be able to show you how to save money.”

“We work with companies to create recommended fixing manuals that explain which screws or fasteners are ideal for that particular profile system, in all situations,” said Andy. “Whatever the product needs, we show the correct screw, alongside whatever reinforcements are being used.”

The Rapierstar team also has its own test centre. “In 1999, we got equipment, studied what people needed and looked at the product as it came in, to make sure that it met our standards. Products must pass at least 240 hours of salt spray testing, for example.

“We look to actively improve standards and help businesses. No one wants to get customer complaints.”
