Leaders of Avantis, a designer and manufacturer of multipoint locking systems for the fenestration industry, have added a new product to the firm’s range. Called Superior, it is marketed as the UK’s first high-performance, bi-directional hook and shootbolt window lock that ‘Works with Kubu’ smart security sensors.

The new product aims to offer homeowners the best of both worlds: exceptional mechanical security with Kubu’s next-generation smart sensing technology. Mark Bromley, CEO of Avantis, said: “The Avantis Superior is one of the most secure window locks now available. It is manufactured using a combination of ultra-high strength materials and features an innovative design for exceptional levels of resilience.

“This design includes a unique bi-directional gearbox as well as the largest bi-directional locking hooks currently on the market. These help to ensure unparalleled levels of security when they’re engaged into the reinforced keeps.”

Thanks to its robust construction and intelligent engineering, the new Avantis Superior has the ability to withstand in excess of 4.5 kilonewtons of end load, we have been told. As a result, it benefits from both Secured by Design and PAS 24 certification. It has also been operation tested to over 50,000 cycles and comes backed with a 10-year mechanical guarantee.

By enabling the new Superior lock to Work with the Kubu floating window sensor, leaders of Avantis aim to open up a new level of convenience and functionality for the homeowner. These sensors can be used to determine whether a window is open, closed, secure or on a vent setting. The sensors can also alert users if a window is under attack. Kubu smart sensors can be used for remote monitoring on a smartphone or tablet, or integrated with other devices such as Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s Nest to form part of a complete smart home ecosystem.

The new Superior lock will be available from Avantis’ launch partners, Listers Window Systems. In the first instance, it will feature on Listers’ Eurologik windows before being introduced across further product lines.

Roy Frost, managing director of Listers, said: “We use Avantis products across our range because of their reliability, ease of use and exceptional performance. Given our experience, being one of the first to adopt the manufacturer’s new Superior hook and shootbolt window lock was a natural decision. It offers all the qualities we know and trust of the brand but with the added benefit of being perfectly placed to help us capitalise on the surging demand for smart home and home automation technology.”
